1954 WB Bugs Bunny cartoon,directed by Robert McKimson First appearance of Tazmanian Devil

Hollywood; Oscar night. After a live-action introduction establishing these points, Bugs Bunny says hi and begins blatantly lobbying for the Oscar that goes instead to James Cagney. Miffed, Bugs shows the audience a clip from Hiawatha's Rabbit Hunt, and the crowd gives it to him but not the Oscar Due to pressure from Warner Bros., this cartoon was one of 11 pulled from rotation by the Cartoon Network for its 2001 "June Bugs" marathon, which was to show the complete chronology of Bugs Bunny cartoons. This is in addition to the "Censored 11" that have been withheld from distribution since 1968. The reason given was its purportedly offensive depiction of Native Americans. Throughout this fourth term in the film music program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, our assignments have consisted of writing 90-second general "genre" pieces that have been dubbed "curtain openers." Usually we do these without writing to picture, but our "Cartoon" assignment was an exception. I chose to go with an old classic: Looney Tunes! It's safe to say, this is probably one of the most insane pieces of music I've ever written so far. Enjoy!
